James R Jones began his construction company in 1975. Starting with the dream of building affordable homes framed personally by him, he bought one lot at a time and, as they say, the rest is history. The company was named James R. Jones Builder, Inc., because Jimmy felt that putting your name out there signified you were proud of your work and willing to stand behind your name. His word is his bond and after a few years of getting the company up and going, developing raw land into subdivisions became a passion and over the next 30 + years he has numerous subdivisions which bear his trademark style.
Being a life long Hopewell resident, Jimmy is very much a “give where you live” businessman. Married to Teresa, they have raised three sons who work with the company, and are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren. The company prides itself on attention to detail and quality. Homes built by James R. Jones Builder, Inc. have a distinction of personalization whether it be a small ranch style home or a multi-level custom design.
Jimmy is still personally involved in the day to day operations of the company, while allowing son Jay to run the excavation and construction company. Jimmy is a past Worshipful Master of Dupont Masonic Lodge #289. He has served on various boards and committee of the Homebuilder’s Association of Southside Virginia. His charitable contributions are evidenced in the restoration of the Beacon Theater in Hopewell, gifts of time, material and labor to the Historic Hopewell Foundation, FOLAR (Friends of the Lower Appomattox River), Prince George County Heritage Museum, First Congregational Christian Church (of which he is a member), local civic organizations, and many personal gifts to those in need.
